A powerful and seminal contribution to the Enneagram field, to conscious breathing, and to the literature and methods for working with grief.”
Jessica Dibb, Spiritual Director and Principal Teacher, Inspiration Consciousness School

Witnessing Grief compassionately helps coaches recognize when they're reacting to clients in order to escape their own discomforts rather than being with clients in a way that allows them the space and the dignity to grieve."
Erika Jackson, MCC, NBC-HWC, Chief Coaching Officer, Wellcoaches

A brave, inspiring, and generous work… Enneagram enthusiasts will appreciate Margl’s skill as she incorporates journal entries, captivating examples from clients, and thoughtful exercises to illustrate coaching strategies with an Enneagram perspective.”

Witnessing Grief is a beacon for coaches and therapeutic professionals, guiding them to deeply connect with clients navigating grief, trauma, and loss. Dive into conscious presence, self-awareness, and deep reflection, illuminated through the Enneagram lens. This guide uncovers coach biases, empowering you to become a genuine anchor in your client's healing journey. Be more than just a listener – be a steadfast witness.

WHY THE ENNEAGRAM AND GRIEF?

The Enneagram (pronounced ANY-a-gram) is an ancient yet exceptionally accurate compass of the human soul, hence its emphasis here.

Dating back millennia, the Enneagram has been instrumental in guiding individuals toward their innermost essence. It transcends categorization as merely spiritual or psychological—it's a harmonious blend of both. As we journey through life, we rely on specific patterns and habits. These very patterns, although making life seemingly predictable, often blind us to our actual experiences. Enter the Enneagram—a beacon that guides us back to the present, anchoring us in conscious awareness.

While the Enneagram is multi-layered and nuanced, our exploration in this book remains surface-level, focusing on its application in understanding grief, trauma, and loss within coaching dialogues. However, this glimpse will empower you with profound self-awareness, fostering braver, genuine coaching sessions.

Conventionally, the Enneagram introduces us to "types." Such a fixed portrayal risks attachment or aversion to labels, distracting us from understanding the motivations driving our behaviors. In "Witnessing Grief," we pivot from "type" or "point" to "dominant bias." This language captures the primary attention centers associated with each of the Enneagram's nine numbers.

Recognizing your dominant bias sharpens your self-perception. This clarity enhances your capacity to stand present amidst conversations about grief, trauma, and loss. A word of caution: "Witnessing Grief" isn't about using the Enneagram as a lens to dissect others. It's a mirror reflecting our inner worlds, not a tool for scrutiny.

Dive into this journey and let the Enneagram illuminate your path.

This is a truly remarkable book. Of course, there is no shortage of coaches or books on related topics. But having read a lot, Holly’s new work is by far the best I’ve seen for four reasons. First and foremost, she writes from direct personal experience, both as the one needing help and giving it. Second, she is an accomplished coach with an internationally sterling track record. Third, her methods work! I tried one of her approaches with a colleague who’d just experienced a traumatic event at work. The calming effect on him was amazing. Fourth, Holly knows how to explain sophisticated concepts in simple terms without ‘dumbing down’ the richness and depth of her insights. I strongly recommend this book to anyone involved in the realm of coaching. You won’t regret investing in it.
