How To Learn

Chick was, unawares, teaching me how to learn. At that moment, I stopped reaching for knowledge and started searching for understanding. The difference at the time was drawn a bit crudely in my mind, but the distinction between knowing what one understands and understanding what one knows seemed clear. While not the finest point on the compass of critical thought, it was a general direction toward the light of intelligence. I learned then to distinguish teachers by whether they taught from opinion or by exemplification.
